New concrete installation covers every flat pour that is not a driveway or patio: garage aprons, shed and hot-tub pads, air-conditioner slabs, dumpster enclosures and the slab under a room addition. The work that decides whether a slab lasts thirty years or cracks in three all happens before the truck arrives.
We excavate to grade, haul the spoil off site and compact CA-6 stone in lifts. Reinforcement goes on chairs so it sits in the middle of the slab rather than on the dirt. The mix is 4,000 psi and air-entrained, which is the single biggest factor in surviving a northern Illinois winter.

New Installation questions
How thick should a new concrete slab be?
Four inches over compacted stone handles foot traffic and cars. Go to five or six inches for trucks, RVs or equipment. We spec the thickness for what will sit on it.
How much does new concrete cost per square foot near Chicago?
The rate per foot depends on access, thickness, and reinforcement. Small pours under 200 square feet cost more per foot because truck minimums are fixed. We quote every job in writing after measuring.
What is the smallest job you will take?
We pour anything from a single stoop pad to a 20,000 square foot commercial slab. Under about 150 square feet carries a small-job minimum to cover the truck.
When can concrete be poured in Illinois?
Roughly late March through early December. In cold weather we use hot water, accelerator and insulated blankets. We never pour on frozen ground.
