A concrete patio is the cheapest square footage you will ever add to a house. It goes in as one continuous slab, so nothing shifts, sinks or sprouts weeds the way an interlocking paver patio does after five Illinois winters.

Size matters more than most homeowners expect. A 10-by-10 holds a small table; a 16-by-20 holds a dining set, a grill and room to walk around both. We lay the shape out in marking paint before we dig, so you can walk it while it is still free to change. Every patio is pitched away from the foundation with an expansion joint isolating it from the house.

What's included

  • Layout, sod removal and excavation to grade
  • Compacted CA-6 stone base
  • Wire mesh reinforcement on chairs
  • Four inch air-entrained pour
  • Broom, stamped, colored or exposed finish
  • Expansion joint at the house, cure-and-seal

How the job goes

  1. On-site measurement, layout painted on grass
  2. Sod strip, excavation, base compaction
  3. Forms, mesh, pour, stamp or broom
  4. Cut joints, seal after 28 days

Patios questions

How much does a concrete patio cost in the Chicago suburbs?

Size and finish decide it. A broom finish is the plainest and least expensive, and stamped and colored work costs more. We measure the yard and put a free price in writing.

Is a concrete patio cheaper than pavers?

Usually, and by a wide margin. Pavers cost noticeably more per square foot installed. Stamped concrete gives a similar look with no joints for weeds and ants to work into.

Do I need a permit for a patio in Illinois?

Most DuPage and Cook villages do, because a patio counts toward your impervious-surface limit. We file the application and handle the inspection.

How long before I can put furniture on a new patio?

Walk on it after 24 hours and set furniture after 7 days. Wait a full 28 days before a hot tub or sealing.
